Slope Point

Description
PreviousNext
Slope Point is the southernmost point on the South Island of New Zealand and is accessible via a 20 minute walk across private farmland. Once there, a yellow AA signpost shows the distance to the equator and the south pole. The views of the surrounding ocean and coastline off of the point's steep rugged cliffs are spectacular.
A particularly fascinating sight at Slope Point are the crooked, bent over trees. Cold air whirls around the Antarctic Ocean uninterrupted, causing the winds to gain immense strength before they smash themselves onto this exposed coastal area in such a persistent and violent manner that the trees here are perpetually warped and windswept.
No dogs.
