This is a standard 6-bunk hut located in Mount Richmond Forest Park in the Motueka area. Fees apply. Bookings not required - first come, first served. Facilities include heating, mattresses, non-flush toilets and water (not treated boil before use). Getting there Starveal Hut: 2 hr 30 min Old Man Hut to Slaty Hut Old Man Hut: 5 hr (10 km) This section between Old Man Hut and Slaty Hut is predominantly above the tree line and is marked with poles. Travel along the main summit ridge to the sign posted junction of Old Man Peak (1514 m). The track then reaches Ada Flat (1420 m) and a forested saddle before following the poles again to Slaty Peak (1544 m) and sidling onto Slaty Hut. Tracks to the hut: Alpine Route Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night's stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass that gives unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 6 or 12-month period.
