Description

This is a standard six bunk hut located in Ruahine Forest Park in the Manawatu region. Fees apply. Bookings not required - first come, first served. Please consider going elsewhere during lambing (1 September to 31 October). Facilities include heating, mattresses, non-flush toilets and water (not treated - boil before use). Heading just north from Mangaweka turn right off SH1, cross the Rangitikei River and follow Kawhatau Valley Road. This eventually leads to Upper Kawhatau Valley Road and not far past this turn right onto Mangakukeke Road. Follow this to the carpark at the end. You must phone the landowner to get prior permission to access the Purity Hut track. Contact Richard Gorringe on +64 6 3825856. Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night's stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass that gives unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 6 or 12-month period.
