Description

The Auckland University Tramping Club Hut is over 70 years old, and the oldest in the Waitkere Ranges. Simla Hut, as it was previously known was used as a timber milling camp cookhouse. Its current name ngruanuku means 'place of the learned people' in Te Reo Mori. It contains a large open space with basic kitchen, table and benches, fireplace and even a piano. No bins or rubbish disposal facilities. Take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave. The hut is looked after by the university's tramping club but can be used by the public. Please phone 09 366 2000 for bookings. Accessible by foot only. There is no vehicle access. No combination code needed. The hut is situated on the Ridge Road Track, just south of the R.G.B. Track connection. Dogs and fires are prohibited at all times.
