This is a serviced 14-bunk hut in the Tararua Forest Park in the Wairarapa region. Fees apply. Bookings not required - first come, first served Facilities include heating (wood stove), mattresses, non-flush toilets and water (not treated - boil before use). Mitre Flats hut can be accessed from Waingawa roadend via the Barra Track, or from Holdsworth roadend via the Atiwhakatu Track. Approximate times from nearest road and huts Waingawa Road: 4 hr Atiwhakatu Hut: 4 hr Cow Creek Hut: 3 hr 30 min Tarn Ridge Hut: 4 hr Dogs are not allowed in backcountry huts. Before you go, buy 1 Serviced Hut Ticket (green for adults, orange for youth) or 3 Standard Hut Tickets (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night's stay. Put these in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Serviced and Standard huts for a 6 or 12 month period.
