Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve

Description
Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve is a stunning 230 hectare forested hill-country catchment with extensive wetlands and 17.8 hectare natural lake. Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve is located at the end of Sangster Road, via
Rawhitiroa Road in an easterly direction from Eltham. The Reserve is fully enclosed in a pest proof fence and there is a double gate system at the entrance.
Freedom camping is permitted in two areas;
Area A - Up to three self-contained vehicles may freedom camp in the area directly in front of the estuary area.
Area B - Up to three non-self-contained vehicles may freedom camp in the area directly outside the public toilets and information centre.
No person may freedom camp for more than three (3) consecutive nights in any calendar month, at any one site.
Boating, water-skiing and kayaking are popular pursuits on the lake, although power craft are excluded from the lake from May to November to provide a peaceful refuge for birdlife. There is a is a 4.2 km bush walk around the Lake.
Dogs are prohibited in the reserve at all times.
