Akapoua Bay Campsite

Description
A popular family camping area near the sheltered waters of Port FitzRoy, with easy access to many of the island's walking tracks. Camp in a sheltered bay amongst beautiful pohutukawa trees.
There are 30 non-powered/tent sites. Facilities include non-flush toilets, cold showers, shelter for cooking and boat launch. Camping fees apply.
Campsite serviced 1 December to end of February.
A wharf, shop, fuel depot and post office are nearby.
Fires are not permitted at any time.
Pets are not permitted.
Access: Narrow gravel roads.
Bookings should preferably be completed online. Phone and email bookings incur a service fee.
There is no free rubbish collection on Aotea/Great Barrier Island. There is a rubbish truck, which only accepts orange rubbish bags that are available from camp hosts at DOC campgrounds. These rubbish bags are $4 each. You can also take your own rubbish to the Claris landfill site. DOC only provides recycling bins during the summer peak season for: bottles, cans, and plastics.
